Training Overview Description

In acute and crisis situations, peer support specialists can become an essential part of the recovery process for individuals under duress. Peer support specialists engage, empower, and advocate for people in acute and crisis settings.

Learning Objectives:

  • List at least 3 ways to engage with peers in crisis that align with the Ten Essential Values of Responding to Mental Health Crises. 1
  • List the Six Principles of the trauma-informed approach.2
  • Describe at least 3 strategies to maintain your own wellness when working with people in crisis.

Elliot Palmer is North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist and Peer Support Trainer. Additionally, Elliot Palmer serves as a member of Durham Reentry Council, Wake Reentry Council, and as a Commissioner on the City of Raleigh Substance Advisory Commission.
