Training Overview Description

Alaska has the highest rate of sexual assault in the country. This impacts all Alaskan behavioral health providers in a wide range of treatment challenges and experiences whether or not you provide direct treatment for convicted sex offenders. The nature of our responsibilities towards individuals who have inflicted harm on others, and the systems that surround them is complex and embedded with ethical dilemmas. This workshop will examine ethical questions including how to develop a therapeutic relationship with coerced clients; how our professional values and ethical standards ought to guide us when assessing and treating men convicted of sexual crimes; and, interacting with systems that may have differing ethical standards. AKTC is an approved CE provider for State of Alaska LPC Board of Examiners and ACBHC; application has been submitted to the State of Alaska Social Work Examiners Board and is pending for approval of Social Work, Ethics contact hours; and meets LMFT CE criteria.
